Data Protection

The Research-to-Action Compass is a tool of the research project "Transferwissenschaft", a collaboration of the Center for Responsible Research and Innovation of Fraunhofer IAO and the Technical University of Berlin, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The tool aggregates various possibilities for transfer strategists in research organizations to expand their transfer support infrastructure.

In the course of using this website, personal data of you will be processed by us as the data controller and stored for the duration necessary to fulfill the specified purposes and legal obligations. In the following, we inform you about what data is involved, how it is processed and what rights you have in this regard.

Personal data are, according to Art. 4 No. 1 of the Basic Data Protection Regulation (DSGVO), all information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person.

1. Scope of application

This data protection information applies to the project website at www.wissensdreieck.de. Name and contact details of the controller and the company data protection officer

2. Processing of personal data and purposes of processing

a) When you visit the website

When you visit our websites, the web servers of our website temporarily store each access of your end device in a log file. The following data is collected and stored until automated deletion:

  • IP address of the requesting computer
  • Date and time of access
  • Name and URL of the retrieved data
  • Amount of data transferred
  • Message as to whether the retrieval was successful
  • Used browser and operating system
  • Name of the Internet access provider
  • Website from which the access was made (referrer URL)

This data is processed for the following purposes:

  • Enabling the use of the website (connection establishment).
  • Administration of the network infrastructure
  • Appropriate technical and organizational measures for IT system and information security, taking into account the state of the art
  • Ensuring the user-friendliness of the use
  • Optimization of the Internet offer
  • Legal bases for the above processing are for the processing for the visit of the websites according to numbers 1-2 Art. 6 para. 1 sentence 1 lit. b (necessity for the fulfillment of the website usage contract),
  • for the processing according to number 3, Art. 6 para. 1 p.1 lit. c DSGVO (legal obligation to implement technical-organizational measures to secure data processing according to Art. 32 DSGVO) and Art. 6 para. 1 p.1 lit. f DSGVO (legitimate interests for data processing for network and information security) as well as for the processing according to numbers 4-5 Art. 6 para. 1 p.1 lit. f DSGVO (legitimate interests).

The legitimate interests of our data processing are to make our offer user-friendly and to optimize it. Within the scope of the legitimate interests, we may also deliver direct advertising. The aforementioned data is automatically deleted from the web server after a defined time, which is 30 days. If data is processed for purposes according to numbers 2-5 for a longer period of time, it will be anonymized or deleted when storage is no longer necessary for the respective purpose.

3. Disclosure of personal data to third parties

We will only pass on personal data relating to you to third parties if:

  • you have given your express consent to this in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 p. 1 lit. a DSGVO;
  • this is necessary according to Art. 6 para. 1 p. 1 lit. b DSGVO for the fulfillment of a contract with you,
  • in the event that a legal obligation exists for the disclosure pursuant to Art. 6 para. 1 p. 1 lit. c DSGVO.

The data passed on may be used by the third party exclusively for the purposes stated. A transfer of personal data to a third country (outside the EU) or an international organization is excluded.

4. YouTube

We use components (videos) of the company YouTube, LLC 901 Cherry Ave, 94066 San Bruno, CA, USA (hereinafter: “YouTube”), a company of Google Inc, Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA (hereinafter: “Google”), on our websites on the basis of consent pursuant to Art. 6 (1) p. 1 lit. f DSGVO. Here, we use the “extended data protection mode” option provided by YouTube. When you call up a page that has an embedded video, a connection is established to the YouTube servers and the content is displayed on the website by informing your browser. According to YouTube’s information, in “extended data protection mode” your data - in particular which of our Internet pages you have visited as well as device-specific information including the IP address - is only transmitted to the YouTube server in the USA when you watch the video. By clicking on the video, you consent to this transmission. If you are logged in to YouTube at the same time, this information will be assigned to your YouTube member account. You can prevent this by logging out of your member account before visiting our website. Google observes the data protection provisions of the “US Privacy Shield” and is registered with the “US Privacy Shield” program of the US Department of Commerce. 5. Data subject rights

You have the right:

  • in accordance with Art. 7 (3) DSGVO, to revoke your consent once given to us at any time. This has the consequence that we may no longer continue the data processing based on this consent for the future;
  • to request information about your personal data processed by us in accordance with Art. 15 DSGVO. In particular, you may request information about the processing purposes, the category of personal data, the categories of recipients to whom your data have been or will be disclosed, the planned storage period, the existence of a right to rectification, erasure, restriction of processing or objection, the existence of a right of complaint, the origin of your data if it has not been collected by us, and the existence of automated decision-making, including profiling, and, if applicable, meaningful information about its details;
  • pursuant to Art. 16 DSGVO, to request the correction of incorrect or incomplete personal data stored by us without undue delay;
  • pursuant to Art. 17 DSGVO, to request the erasure of your personal data stored by us, unless the processing is necessary for the exercise of the right to freedom of expression and information, for compliance with a legal obligation, for reasons of public interest or for the establishment, exercise or defense of legal claims;
  • pursuant to Art. 18 DSGVO, to request the restriction of the processing of your personal data, insofar as the accuracy of the data is disputed by you, the processing is unlawful, but you object to its erasure and we no longer require the data, but you need it for the assertion, exercise or defense of legal claims or you have objected to the processing pursuant to Art. 21 DSGVO;
  • pursuant to Art. 20 DSGVO, to receive your personal data that you have provided to us in a structured, common and machine-readable format or to request the transfer to another controller;
  • and complain to a supervisory authority in accordance with Art. 77 DSGVO. As a rule, you can contact the supervisory authority of your usual place of residence or workplace or our company headquarters for this purpose.

Information about your right to object according to Art. 21 DSGVO.

You have the right to object at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to the processing of personal data concerning you which is carried out on the basis of Article 6(1)(e) DSGVO (data processing in the public interest) and Article 6(1)(f) DSGVO (data processing on the basis of a balance of interests); this also applies to profiling based on this provision of Article 4 No. 4 DSGVO. If you object, we will no longer process your personal data unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for the processing which override your interests, rights and freedoms, or the processing serves the purpose of asserting, exercising or defending legal claims. If your objection is directed against processing of data for the purpose of direct marketing, we will immediately stop the processing. In this case, it is not necessary to specify a particular situation. This also applies to profiling, insofar as it is related to such direct advertising. If you wish to exercise your right to object, an e-mail to datenschutz@zv.fraunhofer.de will suffice.

6. Data security

All data transmitted by you personally will be encrypted using the generally accepted and secure standard TLS (Transport Layer Security). TLS is a secure and proven standard that is also used, for example, in online banking. You can recognize a secure TLS connection, among other things, by the appended s at the http (i.e. https://..) in the address bar of your browser or by the lock symbol in the lower area of your browser. We also use appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your data against accidental or intentional manipulation, partial or complete loss, destruction or against unauthorized access by third parties. Our security measures are continuously improved in line with technological developments.

7. Topicality and change of this data protection information

This data protection information is currently valid and has the status January 2019. Due to the further development of our website and offers on it or due to changed legal or official requirements, it may become necessary to change this data protection information. The current data protection information can be accessed and printed out by you at any time on the website at https://www.research-to-action-compass/data-protection.

8. Severability clause

Should individual provisions of this privacy policy be or become invalid or unenforceable in whole or in part, this shall not affect the validity of the remaining provisions. The same applies in the event of gaps.
